From Ashlyn Gibbens Hobbs of Sweet Magnolia Floral… Located in the heart of the Texas Hill Country, most of the weddings we design at Sweet Magnolia are destination weddings. Because family and friends have traveled so far to help celebrate, it is really important that the flowers reflect the unique personalities of our clients and truly encompass the vision each couple has for their wedding day! Known for lush bouquets and garden style arrangements, our designs at Sweet Magnolia are full of seasonal materials sourced from local farmers and our aesthetic is one driven by the nature around us. 

We start with a color pallet and key words to begin our design process. Hannah was inspired by watercolor, and knew she wanted raspberry blooms with pops of bright colors to be the main focus of her wedding decor. The theme was “Boho Glam” and the beautiful bridesmaids wore a mixture of champagne and blush dresses. When having a mix and match bridal party, it is important that the bouquets tie the look together. In addition to the large raspberry statement flowers, we added pops of gold toned garden roses and ranunculus in all shades of pink to reflect the colors of the ladies’ gowns. 

Hannah is stunning, inside and out, and I wanted to create a bouquet that truly reflected her huge heart and always cheerful demeanor. March is prime flower season here in Texas, and we used a variety of foliage, ranunculus, and anemones grown locally in our garden as well as right down the road by our friends at Prickly Pair Farm. It doesn’t get any better than working with materials that are cut literally the same day as the wedding. To create a contrast, I accented the romantic peonies, garden roses, and ranunculus with items that have unique textures, like thistle and veronica. Draped with fuchsia fringe, this bouquet was the epitome of Boho Glam yet still classic and refined, like sweet Hannah. In my opinion, mixing romantic blooms with uncommon components are what makes a bouquet photograph well — turning a standard floral design into a work of art!
