With our easy to follow DIY, you can celebrate that very special day with a beautiful wedding cake piñata. Scroll on for more!

Materials Cardboard 2 packages of iridescent tissue paper 4 packages of pearly white tissue paper Silver foil tissue Fringe cutter White cardstock paper Scissors Hot glue gun Hot glue sticks Clothesline rope instructions step-1 Draw out four circles on the cardboard: 7” diameter, 11” diameter, and (2) 16” diameter. To make a perfect circle, trace a bowl or plate with the same diameter, or tie a pencil to a string and a tack. Cut out the circles. step-2 Cut a 6” diameter hole out of the center of the 11” circle and an 8” diameter hole out of one of the 16” circles. Poke a hole in the center of the other 16” circle and the 7” circle. step-3 Cut out cardboard strips that are 6”, 5”, and 4” wide and as long as they need to be to wrap around their circles (smallest width matches to the smallest circle). step-4 Glue the cardboard strips to the circles, then glue the circles together in a cake shape. Before you add on the top layer, tie a knot on one end of the rope and string through the hole in the bottom of the biggest layer, up through the center of the other layers, and out through the hole of the top layer. Add in your pinata treats (may we suggest mini plastic bottles of booze?), then glue the top layer in place. step-5 Cut the tissue paper into 5” wide strips. Layer 12 sheets of paper together and use the fringe cutter to cut 4” long fringe down the length of the strips. Separate the fringe into 4 groups of 3 sheets each and staple the 3 sheets together at either end. Repeat until all the tissue paper is fringed. step-6 Starting from the bottom of the cake, glue the fringe around the cardboard. Place the next layer about 1” from the edge of the layer underneath. Place an iridescent layer after 2 of the pearly white layers. step-7 Cut a 7” circle out of the cardstock and cut a hole in the center for the rope. Glue to the top of the cake. step-8 Cut the silver foil tissue into 4” wide strips. Glue three sheets end to end, then twist into a rope. Repeat with a second set of sheets, then twist the two ropes together in the opposite direction of the original twist. Having trouble picturing it? Check out these instructions for fabric rope to get an idea. Make enough rope to go around each cake layer. step-9 Hot glue the silver foil ropes in a ring around each cake layer. Hang the cake from a tree branch or the ceiling and let the happy couple whack away!

Whimsy in the Hudson Valley

Nothing makes us happier than seeing a Bride and Groom having an absolute blast on their big day, so this wedding has us smiling from ear to ear. Marissa and Jesse’s Hudson Valley nuptials were not only gorgeous, but oh-so-fun for the couple and their friends and families! Proving, you really can have it all on your big day! Thanks to these snaps from Dave Robbins Photography, we can enjoy every detail right along with them. Take in even more of the loveliness in the full gallery right here!

[styleguide]

From Dave Robbins PhotographyWhen Marissa and Jesse first met with event planner Amy Shey Jacobs of Chandelier Events, they said they wanted to find a destination in their beloved Hudson Valley (where they loved to take romantic daytrips) that fulfilled their vision of either rustic charm or modern Brooklyn art gallery–with amazing food, of course. In an instant, there was one venue the came to mind! Fusing all of their wishes and more, Roundhouse at Beacon Falls was a perfect match. A recently revitalized factory complex located on the Fishkill River in hip Hudson River town Beacon, New York, Roundhouse at Beacon offered a high-end modern hotel, Top Chef-worthy cuisine, a breathtaking ceremony location among the waterfalls–and a restored farmhouse-meets-industrial reception space with soaring 30-foot ceilings, exposed brick and massive picture windows overlooking the magnificent sites.

Marissa and Jesse, who had been dating since college days at George Washington University and through Marissa’s days in law school, knew it was the spot for them. They invited 200 guests from their hometowns of New York, Atlanta and Boston for a wedding weekend away over Memorial Day Weekend in Beacon. The nearlyweds and their guests took over the town for three-days of celebration and exploration!

While they offered fun and relaxation throughout the weekend, from a guided tour at the modern art museum, Dia: Beacon to an intimate rehearsal dinner followed by a raucous cocktail party at Sapore Steakhouse in nearby Fishkill; and a post-wedding Sunday brunch at SWIFT restaurant in the Inn at Roundhouse at Beacon Falls, it was the wedding ceremony and reception that took the cake!

The couple, with the guidance of Chandelier Events, enlisted Grayson Handy and Arturo Quintero of Prudence Designs in Manhattan to pull together a beautiful outdoor ceremony, river-side cocktail hour and breathtaking florals in the couple’s favorite color palette — rich purple, bold blues and bright pinks! Guests were greeted with hand-drawn chalkboards, a custom vintage Arnold Palmer bar and a whimsical iron-bike installation with chalkboard arrows pointing to their hometowns and on-site festivities, dreamed up Chandelier Events with Prudence and props from the Hatch Creative Studio Prop Shop! While the food played a key role in the evening for Marissa and Jesse, it was the music played that center-stage for the couple: Tunes, from Jesse’s Girl to Hanson’s MMMBop to Macklemore rocked by The Elements, who had the dance floor pumping ALL NIGHT LONG. Naturally, the bride and groom closed out the night out up on the stage!

DIY Engagement Photo Envelope Liners

I adore my engagement photos captured by our photographer, Rebecca Yale and I’m constantly racking my brain on what to do with them. Sure, you can frame them or tuck them away in a pretty album, but I’m loving our resident DIY expert Jess‘ fresh new idea for these DIY engagement envelope liners. You know grandma will love seeing your pretty faces peek at her when she opens your save the date!

MaterialsEnvelopes

Engagement photos

Fine quality paper (we used this)

Pencil

Ruler

Bone folder
Glue stick

instructions

step-1 Create a template for your envelope. If you are using Paper Source envelopes, they have a template kit you can purchase. Or you can easily make a template by following these instructions.

step-2 Use a high-quality, large size photo that you can print out larger than your envelope size. For a 5”x7” envelope, we needed an 8”x10” print and for a 4”x6” envelope, we needed a 5”x7” print. Choose a photo where the two of you can both fit in the triangle shape of the envelope flap, and you won’t be too large or too small once the photo is cropped- you may need to print out a few choices on copy paper to see what works.

step-3 Print out the photo on the fine quality paper. Place it over the template, then hold both sheets up to a window, so you can see the outline of the template on the photo. Position the template so that the photo will cover all the template area, and that the two of you are nicely in the center of the template.

step-4 Carefully take the photo & template away from the window and flip facedown on a table. Trace the template on the back of the photo, then cut out the photo with scissors.

step-5 Tuck the photo liner into the envelope and lightly glue in place on the flap (the bottom can hang loose, it will lay flat inside the envelope). Use the bone folder to press a crease in the liner along the crease of the envelope flap.

step-6 Print out photos for the remaining envelopes and trace the template on the backside of each. Cut out each liner, glue into envelopes, and crease. Your envelopes are ready for invitations!
