Shades of Blue Santa Barbara Wedding

Friends, this wedding is one you want to sit down and really get to know. It’s layered in the richest shades of blue (those bridesmaids!) as a nod to the oceanside Bacara Resort & Spa setting, and sprinkled with steal-worthy ideas like the mosaic tile place cards. Carly Rae WeddingsBob Gail Special EventsPrimary Petals and Jessica Burke are just a few of the vendors who made it all happen, and The Vault is your go-to for every last image.

From The Bride… I had a very distinct vision in my mind when it came to planning our wedding…light and flowy, with many Spanish style touches. It took a few months of workshopping the exact look we wanted, but were incredibly delighted with how the vision came to life. As a wedding photographer, I already had my list of preferred vendors, and to see everyone work together the months prior and on the actual wedding day was very satisfying because it reaffirmed why we are all in this business.

My bridesmaids all wore various shades of blue, since we had the ocean as our ceremony backdrop. I wanted the colors of their dresses to blend into the scene. Their white and green bouquets were wrapped in frou frou chic ribbon that really flowed with their dresses. Matt and his groomsmen all wore midnight blue tuxedos with gorgeous ranunculus boutonnieres.

Matt and I traveled to Cabo San Lucas on one of our first trips together and fell in love with the bougainvillea lined streets and star lanterns in restaurants, and very much wanted to incorporate that into the wedding. I thought of ordering Mexican tiles for the escort tiles in the colors of the wedding. I had our wonderful calligrapher hand write everyone’s names on the front of the tiles so that they could save it as a favor. Carly and her team created a stunning mosaic style pattern to display the tiles.

The ballroom was meant to feel like a cabana – with flowy white draping and palm trees everywhere. We worked with Primary Petals to design a backdrop for the stage, and it turned out beautifully! The star lanterns hanging from above the dance floor were like the icing on the cake, it really set the mood as far as incorporating the spanish touches.

We had a lot of family coming from as far as Spain, so we knew we wanted the weekend to have as much partying as possible, so we organized welcome drinks following our rehearsal dinner. We were able to set the mood with spanish style music, hanging lanterns and string lights, and gorgeous blooms.

On our many trips to Santa Barbara, we frequent Enjoy Cupcakes quite a bit, and so it was a no-brainer to include them in our wedding. All of our guests thoroughly enjoyed the cupcakes, cakes, and cobblers, and we made sure to provide custom to-go boxes for them to take home as much as they wanted. Ultimately, the weekend flew by, and was incredibly magical. We had the most amazing time surrounded by our friends and family.

From Zosia Zacharia PhotographyOur shoot was inspired by the neo-classical venue, Parkstead House, built in the 1760s, located in south west London. Full of beautiful original features including its elegant plaster work indoors, a stunning double staircase outside, manicured grounds and neo-classical temple all of which provide the perfect back drop to any wedding.

With this we wanted our bride to embody the soft, whimsical, romantic look of the Georgian era. Soft flowing antique lace gowns from bridal dress designer Sally Lacock in styles Esme and Flora were paired with beautiful pairs of Rachel Simpson shoes in styles Victoria and Isabelle.

Make up artist Clare created a modern twist on the traditional English rose look for our bride by pairing dusty pink lips with a smoky gold eye with lashings of black mascara to give a more glamorous feel. Clare created a loose up-do and used delicate hand made hair-pieces to finish the look loaned by Abby of Cherished Bride.

Florist Kate created a modern trailing bouquet featuring Jasmine flowers, Sweetpeas, colourful Caramel Antike and Café Latte English roses, Dahlias and Astrantia. Along with romantic buttonholes featuring English garden roses tied with hand dyed silk ribbon.

Krishanthi Armitt of Cakes by Krishanthi created a stunning 4 tier wedding cake with sugar flowers to reflect the over all botanical theme. Krishanthi created a pale pastel blue icing as a base with a silver trellis design and hand crafted delicate sugar flowers in the style of trailing Clematis flowers & sweet peas. She also created co-ordinating cup cakes with silver trellis style holders and matching sugar flowers.

Our groom wore a romantic buttonhole and looked rather dapper in a tailored navy blue, fine pinstripe wool, 3 piece suit from bespoke tailors Marc Wallace.

Modern calligrapher Judy created a delicate invitation suite featuring white ink lettering on soft grey card finished with botanical theme stamps. Metallic silver was used as a high light colour for trailing botanical design invitation liners and a family crest threaded with beautiful organic, hand-dyed ribbon from Lancaster & Cornish.

For the reception tablescape wedding planner Rachael matched white linen and elegant bone china with antique silver cutlery & silverware, creating a simple backdrop to the colourful floral display which included extending trailing Jasmine along the length of the table, intertwined between antique silver candle sticks & tea lights. The tablescape was made completed with modern calligraphed placecards and luxurious leather Louis chairs provided by Academy Hire.
