Brand Association and Brand Equity for your Wedding Business

Having a solid brand is key to running a successful business. Your branding is the first thing your clients will think of when they assess  your offering. It determines how you message your products, how customers will perceive your and how likely they will be to purchase. How and why this happens is based on a theory called brand association.

So, what does brand association even mean?

Brand association is the psychology of how a consumer thinks about a brand, based on tangible and intangible things alike. When discovering a new brand, customers subconsciously categorize them based on things like the emotion they feel, the images they see, and what connections that brand has to others they may more closely recognize. Even at the very early stages of discovery, when thinking of a brand they are aware of, they immediately and subconsciously recall these categorizations and predetermine their opinion of said brand.

Did you know it takes consumers, on average, .05 seconds to determine if they like a website enough to stay, according to Bright Local Study? In addition, consumers spend nearly 6 seconds looking at a website’s main image, in contrast to spending almost equal time reading a website’s written content. We were not surprised to read these, as collated by Tonic Site Shop, as it confirms that visuals are so important to your brand.

What you want for your wedding business: Potential customers to associate positive feelings towards your company and offering, have a clear understanding of what to expect when hiring you, and recognize value that justifies the prices for your services/products.

Pillars of brand association

Visuals/design

  • “Unlike sound or tactile cues, visual elements can be applied across a multitude of platforms and formats, allowing them to be present at every brand touchpoint.” -- Latana

  • The look of your brand. This includes your logo, website design, email interface, business cards, sales materials, and yes for sure the actual aesthetic of your work.

  • Visual representation is one of the first, and most impactful ways that a customer makes immediate assumptions about a brand.

Language

  • “Brand language is the body of terms, phrases, and words that a company uses to describe both themselves and their products. It is a marketing strategy used to help consumers identify and strike connections between specific words and a given product. “ -- OnDemandCMO

  • The examples that this article use are specific coined terms like “Magic Kingdom”, “15%”, and “Just do it.” -- can you think of the respective brands immediately? Yep. Disney, Geico, and Nike.

  • The language you use helps gives life to the visuals you put out there. Language also starts to paint the story of a brand, giving it longevity, and personality. When tweaking your wedding business language, perhaps you can consider phrases and words that a) are natural to you and b) convey feelings of happiness, luxury, celebration, and timelessness. All emotions/values that are crucial on a wedding day.

Once you’ve built your brand, and succeeded in positive brand association - it’s time to think about brand equity. Brand equity is the value of being a well-known, recognized or respected brand and, in having high brand equity, being able to generate more revenue than your competitors because of this status.

Cashing in on Your Brand Equity

As a wedding vendor, there’s a number of ways you can increase your brand equity - by working with other well-known and respected vendors or venues, by producing wow-worthy content that is naturally viral and by partnering with publications who have large followings that closely match the type of client you aspire to reach.

Here at Style Me Pretty, we call this - being in good company and here are a few ways partnering with Style Me Pretty amps up your brand equity.

Venues

Regularly show off your work that took place at your ideal venues  (hot tip: or create work at these ideal venues!). Constantly put your business in the same lens as your ideal locations - this subconsciously reinforces the idea that you can create work that aligns with this venue.

Fellow vendors

Regularly show off work that you’ve done alongside other vendors that fall within your ideal range and share images/events with the aesthetic you’re aiming for.

Memberships

Part of SMP's job is to reach out and give your brand a hug as your potential client is walking by (or cruising the internet or the ‘gram). This reinforces credibility and aesthestic alignment (you’re connected with SMP who has a strong brand identity as well in romantic, classic, and elevated weddings). The other vendors in the directory also elevate your brand’s credibility.

We’d love to really dive into this topic with all of you so please feel free to reach out either in our DMs (via @smplittleblackbook on IG) or at membership@stylemepretty.com!

From Photographer's POV:
I had the honor of photographing Winnie and Zach’s Elegant Park Chateau Wedding in East Brunswick, NJ. Their dreamy wedding day was filled with joy, and so many gorgeous details and memorable moments. New Jersey is home to several elegant and high end wedding venues. Park Chateau Estate and Gardens is at the top of that list with their stunning event spaces and romantic elegance infused throughout. It is the perfect venue for a classic and timeless wedding day celebration. Several amazing wedding vendors had a part in Winnie and Zach’s beautiful wedding day! Brooke of AMV Weddings did a fantastic job planning their special day and bringing their vision for the day to life! They make it a priority to customize every wedding experience for each couple to have the wedding of their dreams! I was blown away by all the details and how carefully orchestrated Winnie and Zach’s wedding day was. Everything flowed seamlessly. To capture their amazing wedding detail shots, I worked with my friend, Joanna of Hazel Dust Studios to style the flat lays! She does amazing work at styling wedding details to elevate the overall look and aesthetic. I highly recommend to all my brides to hire a stylist like Hazel Dust Studios for a more polished, higher-end, and GORGEOUS detail layout. The bride wore a stunning wedding dress with lace sleeves and collar details. She looked positively radiant! I am pretty sure her father agreed judging by his reaction during their first look in the bridal suite. Pedestal Floral Decorators went above and beyond in the floral design! From the beautiful arrangements in the bouquets to the classic look of flower arrangements decorating the grand staircase, the eye-catching floral arch at the wedding ceremony, to the dreamy and romantic flower arrangement found in the center of each table at the reception and draping the front of the couple’s sweetheart table. Their work is impeccable with an eye for design, a passion for creativity, and a commitment to provide the best service and florals. Winnie and Zach had a gorgeous color pallet for their wedding that included neutral tones of white, peach, and pops of dusty blue. The way the colors were intertwined throughout their wedding and were brought to life with the floral displays was breathtaking! During their elegant celebration at their reception, the couple performed a very regal choreographed first dance set to orchestral music unlike any first dance I’ve ever seen. It was mesmerizing to watch. They practiced their dance one during cocktail hour prior to the beginning of the reception, and when it came time to perform it went flawlessly. Your Wedding and Chandon – The Perfect Pairing

Choosing a venue for your wedding is one of the first things you should check off your to-do list. And now, more than ever, it’s important to find an all-inclusive venue, somewhere you can hold the ceremony and reception, and heck, even the rehearsal dinner (trust us, your guests will thank you for not making them bounce between locations). Well, we’ve found just the place and it’s in scenic Napa wine country – Chandon (yes, that Chandon). Not only does the winery sport the quintessential vineyard views, their whimsical garden space and the winery itself were designed specifically to host weddings. Whether you want to take advantage of Cali’s perfect weather and go for an outdoor ceremony, shaded by 100-year-old oak trees with views of the valley, or welcome your guests into one of Chandon’s unique indoor spaces, they’ve got something for everyone.

Summer Wedding at Groom’s Family Home

One of the prettiest places I have ever laid eyes on. Harry and I arrived in New York a day before Shannon and Phil’s Long Island wedding. Making a pit stop in Oyster Bay at the florist shop we decided we should look since their Planting Fields Arboretum Wedding portraits would be there the next day. Seriously, if I lived in Oyster Bay I would be at Planting Fields all the time. It’s so gorgeous, everywhere you turn it’s like a dream. Especially now that it is summer and everything is in bloom. We went by to scout the venue and I am so glad we did because it is quite sprawling. We first went to the Italian garden and oh my heavens it is stunning. There is a hobbit-like house called the Tea House that sits adjacent to a crystal blue fountain surrounded by a plethora of flowers in bloom. We made our way around the estate visiting the Rose Arbors, and greenhouses. The next day for Shannon and Phil’s wedding day we arrived for their first look and start in front of the Tea House. An utterly perfect moment between Phil and Shannon. After a first look, we took a spin through the garden and then over to the Camellia House for family and bridal party photos. The Camellia House has exquisite architecture, perfect for Phil and Shannon’s family photos and bridal party pictures. Shannon and Phil’s Planting Fields Arboretum Wedding portraits will forever be some of my favorites. When I used to think of backyard weddings, luxury is not something that came to mind. However, wait until you see this one, it is amazing. Shannon and Phil married a few weeks ago on a mild summer day in July. And when I say it was mild, a mere 82 degrees made for the perfect day! Literally, it’s normally so hot, but their day was amazing. Leaving this Long Island New York Wedding a must-see event. A sailcloth tent was set up behind the pool for an amazing wedding reception. And a gorgeous ceremony with an aisle flanked on both ends with gorgeous flower arches. Shannon walked down the aisle in a gorgeous Berta gown to Phil, who was crying tears of joy. They shared the most precious vows with each other and shared rings and a kiss to seal their love. Exiting through guests tossing flower petals and another kiss at the end of the aisle, their forever together started. Their wedding reception started with a cocktail hour around the pool with a mixologist and three custom cocktails to choose from. From cocktail hour guests entered the gorgeous sail cloth tent to their seats for a delicious meal. Friends and family toasting the couple’s happiness, first dances, and special songs were all part of the celebration, followed by a fun party of dancing! We absolutely adore Phil and Shannon and the love they share. From the very first phone call, we knew these two were going to be an unstoppable force together. We love their day and the love they share. It is such a great honor to be a part of their magical day.

Quick Submission 2022-03-23

Q1: Tell us about your wedding! What was the inspiration behind your day? Did you have a
specific theme, style or color palette? Did you incorporate any cultural or religious traditions in
any part of your day? Romantic Summer Garden wedding was the theme we were going for. We wanted our wedding
to be beautiful, romantic and elegant, but also relaxed and fun - we wanted our guests to be
comfortable and feel at home. We stuck to a lot of whites, blues and neutrals throughout the
wedding. My Uncle Scott, who was the minister at my parents wedding 30 years ago, also officiated our
wedding. Q2: Let's talk wedding decor. How did you decorate your space for the ceremony and the
reception? Was any part of the decor DIY? For ceremony we chose the more intimate ceremony space at El Chorro, to make it seem more
like the garden feel we wanted. We chose white wooden chairs paired with the greenery and
floral archway and accented with white parasols and handheld fans to help with the Arizona
heat. In cocktail hour we decorated with a customized blue seating chart, blue accents on the gift and
sign in table, and a white bar to match the white linens. In the reception space we decorated with a beautiful custom dance floor wrap to match the bar
and our invitations. We had different shades of blue on the linens and stationery on the tables,
accented with white stone plates and gold flatware. The dance floor was a last minute decision,
and I am so glad we added it because it was so, special. Q3: What were the florals like in your wedding? Did you use flowers in any of your design
elements like the bridal bouquets, centerpieces or ceremony backdrop? Did they play an
important part in the overall style of your wedding? The florals were one of the pieces of the wedding I was most looking forward to and what many
of our decisions were made around. We had flowers and greenery in almost every aspect of the
wedding. For ceremony we had a beautiful greenery and floral arch as our backdrop, with floral
arrangements placed at the beginning of the aisle that was covered in white rose petals. In cocktail hour we had some flower arrangements on the gift table and bar, as well as two
larger floral pieces in front of the champagne tower. In the reception space we had beautiful romantic floral centerpieces, with floral at the
sweetheart table, as well as some greenery and floral hanging from chandeliers above the
dance floor. My bouquet, along with the bridesmaid’s bouquets matched the rest of flowers of the wedding
and were predominately white and green. Q4: Did you personalize the day in any way (food trucks, guest entertainment etc.)? What were
some of your favorite parts of your wedding? We personalized our day with a glam photo booth for our guests, as well as grilled cheese
sandwiches and tater tots for a late-night snack. Q5: Let's talk fashion. How did you both choose your wedding day look? Describe the looks in
detail. Based on my personality and pageant history, everyone expected me in the big, elaborate,
sparkly dress. I opted for classic and simple because I wanted the whole day, including our
attire, to truly be timeless. I wore a simple Carolina Herrera gown with buttons all down the
back, with a little bit of sparkle added on the most amazing Mira Zwillinger veil. Kyle wore a
custom blue suit with a blue floral tie, and a dress shirt adorned with his initials on the sleeves. To accessorize we also kept it very simple, I wore pear shaped earrings, with Kyle’s late
grandmothers ring that she gifted to me for my college graduation. Q6: How did you meet? Tell us about the proposal. Kyle and I met in middle school, in English class. We sat next to each other in History class and
developed a friendship. We started dating the summer going into our sophomore year of High
School. Our wedding day actually ended up being one day shy of exactly 10 years since our first
kiss. Our original wedding date, June 20, 2020 would have been 9 years to the day. We had been together for so long, so we talked about getting engaged a lot. Since our family is
so important to us, my only request was that both of our families were there. Kyle proposed on
Mother’s Day 2019 at Grayhawk Golf Club at a brunch planned for his mom, that my parents
ended up attending as well to surprise me. We spent the evening with my parents and his dad,
and truly had the most perfect day. Q7: What was the most anticipated or special moment of your wedding day? The most anticipated and most special moment of our wedding day was seeing each other and
exchanging vows during our first look. Q8: Do you have any wedding planning or marriage advice that you'd like to share with other
couples planning their day? Like everyone typically says, my advice is to truly be present in each moment, and soak in the
whole day, because it really goes by in the blink of an eye. Another piece of advice I have is if you are contemplating a larger bridal party – do it. It is
logistically a lot of work, and can of course get more expensive, but being able to spend the
whole day with our very best friends was such a blessing and made our wedding even more
special to us. Q9: How was working with your vendor team and what did you love about them? Our vendors were all incredible, we truly had a dream team. Throughout one postponement and
one change in venue, every single vendor was with us from start to finish. When we had to
postpone, we picked the day around our vendors because we couldn’t even fathom moving
forward if we didn’t have each and every one of them. If it were not for our planners, BTS Event Management, I think we would have thrown in the
towel and eloped. They helped us first choose a new day, and then a little while later choose a
new venue, all while keeping us calm. We had a very clear vision of what we wanted our
wedding to look and feel like but had no idea how to execute it. BTS understood exactly what
we were going for and put together the most incredible day, with the most incredible vendors. Without them, none of it would have been possible! Our photo and video team were AMAZING. Ashley, Molly, Luke and everyone else there to help
were so pleasant to be around and brought a sense of joy and excitement to our wedding day
that we did not know we needed. Not only did we love being around them, but they are seriously
so talented and far exceeded any expectations we had. Our wedding day was HOT, but from
looking at the photos and video you would never be able to tell. Their work individually is
incredible to say the least, but their work goes together so well that we felt like we could not
possibly have one without the other. We will cherish their artwork for the rest of our lives! Our florists were incredible as well. They worked so well with our planners to execute or vision,
and every arrangement truly was a work of art. I only wish that we could have saved all the
flowers to keep forever too!
