It’s Friday my loves! And you know we would never send you off into the weekend without a bang, right? Never! This week, that bang comes in the form of this Southern shindig from Greer G Photography—layered with a simple sophistication that proves lace and blooms alone can go a long way. Make sure to peruse the entire day in the new Vault experience—you won’t want to miss the bow tied pup (who crashed the first dance!) and those ridiculously cute flower girls.
From The Bride…Lee and my story began during our junior year of college when mutual friends introduced us to each other. For the next year and a half we were inseparable, but we moved to two different parts of the country after graduation. We always stayed in touch, but it wasn’t until five years later that I came to visit New Orleans that we would see each other again. A year later, I moved to Louisiana from Colorado, and another year later, Lee got down on one knee and asked me to marry him.
We knew we wanted to share our special day with our closest friends and family through an intimate ceremony and reception and decided to plan our wedding weekend close to home.
The weather forecast called for a small chance of rain the day of our wedding, but we remained optimistic and had the reception set up to be outdoors under the twinkling string lights. The entire morning and afternoon was sunny and pleasant, but as my father walked me down the aisle of the chapel, the rain began to downpour. The rain stopped as soon as we completed our vows and we were greeted with a few clouds and sunshine as we exited the chapel. The cocktail hour followed the ceremony down the road at Lee’s parents plantation styled home, which is also the home Lee grew up in. We chose a neutral color palate of ivory, blush, and champagne, which was carried throughout the bridal party dresses, the flowers, linens, and decorations. Lee and I arrived at the cocktail hour to guests carrying soaking wet tables and chairs indoor in case there was going to be more rain. My immediate thought was that our reception was ruined, but I was so glad everyone was having a wonderful time and enjoying the passed hors d’oeuvres and cocktails. There was plenty of room indoors as guests roamed the art filled home and gathered on balconies and danced the evening away.
The Judice family catered the most delicious southern menu with stations including raw oysters and sashimi tuna, gourmet cheeses and fruit, salads, filet sliders, crab cakes, crawfish pies, lobster ravioli, chicken and portabella pasta, summer grilled vegetables, and fried catfish and shrimp. After Lee and I cut our four tiered buttercream frosted wedding cake, adorned in peonies and roses, guests were also served glazed donuts from our favorite donut shop, Butter Krisp Diner. Towards the end of the evening, cigars were passed around amongst the men and they gathered around the pool house to enjoy.
Our wedding had some things not go as planned, but it was perfect for us and even better than we dreamed it could be. We felt so much love as we celebrated the most unforgettable day of our lives and are so thankful to everyone who helped to make it happen, especially our family and friends who traveled near and far to celebrate with us and our vendors including Greer Gattuso who was able to capture our wedding day with memories that we’ll cherish for a lifetime.
