Modern Mountain Wedding Set at a Distillery

With a ceremony set in the Utah mountains followed by a reception in a chic new distillery, it’s safe to say Traci and Michael’s wedding day was not your average “I do.” Instead, it’s a celebration designed one part modern and one part vintage as an ode to Traci’s love of heirloom treasures – including her mom’s lace veil. More from D’Arcy Benincosa Photography waiting in The Vault.

From the Bride…When we started talking about what we wanted for our wedding we both kept coming back to the same words, “Simple, understated, classy and timeless”. I guess you could say our wedding theme was restoration hardware meets vintage chic.

We were having a really tough time finding an outdoor venue in Orange County, CA so when Mike’s good friend, Eric Leblang who is also the F and B Operations Director at High West suggested we come look at the new HW Distillery, we did. It was love at first sight! We knew after being there for almost 4 hours and not wanting to leave, we had found the perfect place to get married!

Mike’s family has a home in Park City, which has always held a special place in his heart. The stars aligned and everything felt meant to be. We had our first look there in the backyard next to the old log cabin. Even our dog Duke came running out to be part of the pictures and celebration. It was perfection!

I grew up going to antique swap meets with my mom and sisters and just love vintage treasures. I wanted to find a way to incorporate some of these timeless pieces into our special day. My mom and I had so much fun collecting over 200 brass candlesticks for the tables, old windows to write the seat assignments on, vintage crystal for our wedding glasses and fun old linens to cover the hay bales for the ceremony.

My mom surprised me and let me wear her veil made of French lace that she had made and wore for her/my parent’s wedding over 40 years prior! We also were fortunate enough to use their cake cutter and server from their wedding day too.

Our wedding was all about incorporating little things that are important to both of us in subtle ways. On our first date we challenged each other to an artichoke cook off so we had our table numbers sitting in raw whole artichokes. Traci’s favorite color is yellow so her bouquet had hints of yellow. We literally tied the knot during the ceremony, which is symbolic to both Traci’s many years of sailing in Southern CA and also Mike’s Irish heritage. Mike loves fly fishing so all the guys had fly boutonnieres instead of flower boutonnieres.

The other thing that was really important to us was to make sure our wedding party was as comfortable and had as much fun as possible! We all know being a bridesmaid or a groomsman is an honor, however it can come with some eye rolling requests. We didn’t want that. Our groomsmen wore mismatched gray suits that they already owned and our bridesmaids got to pick out and/or buy a dress of their choice that they would love to own and wear again. This way we knew everyone would feel as beautiful and handsome as possible! When you feel good it shows and our wedding party was on point!

We feel extraordinarily lucky to have D’Arcy as our wedding photographer, Amber as our florist, Megan Zeitner as our videographer, DJ Pauly and the staff at High West to bring our vision to life! It was the Best. Day. Ever and we loved every minute!
