It’s no secret that if you aren’t careful, you can rack up a major wedding bill before you say “I Do.” You can have the day of your dreams without sacrificing piles of cash if you make a few smart, sneaky choices. Here are a few easy swaps for line items in your wedding budget that will leave you with a little extra cash (perfect for your honeymoon fund)!
Champagne Toast
Swap budget Prosecco for expensive champagne for your toast. Most people will be a bit tipsy already and not notice the difference!
Jewelry
Swap cubic zirconia earrings for real diamond studs. Literally, nobody will notice—your ears aren’t something people are going to be admiring on your wedding day when there’s so much else to look at (hello, gorgeous dress).
Flowers
Swap peonies for hydrangeas. Hydrangeas are a great floral for bouquets because they’re relatively inexpensive, and similar to peonies, their rounded shape will fill out your bouquet nicely. Peonies, on the other hand, tend to cost a pretty penny.
Shoes
Swap designer footwear for budget heels. Again, nobody’s going to be looking at the bottom of your feet to see if the sole is red—many brands have heels that are just as beautiful for a fraction of the price. They’re going to be kicked off come 9 p.m. anyway!
Cake
Swap the cake for cupcakes. A large, ornate wedding cake will run you hundreds of dollars, and guests will enjoy cupcakes just as much! It also eliminates the “cake-cutting fee” that many caterers charge. Dying for that Instagram-worthy cake? Have a small one-tier cake created and then hide a sheet cake in the back for guests to eat.
Paper goods
Swap the program for a cute wooden or chalkboard sign. Most guests will barely glance at the program and then toss it after the ceremony—a sign makes for great pictures and tells everyone the order of events without killing as many trees or costing you as much at the printer.
Rentals
Swap smaller tables for larger ones. Fewer tables mean fewer centerpieces, linens, and even small things like table numbers.
Favors
Swap favors for late-night snacks. Favors are another thing that very few guests appreciate or even take home. Instead, have late-night pizza or doughnuts for them to munch on before saying goodbye. Late-night snacks soak up the alcohol and are an instant crowd-pleaser, and they don’t usually break the bank too badly, especially when compared with a personalized shot glass, koozie or magnet per guest, many of which will be left on tables.
