A Breathtaking Wedding Without a Speck of Bright Color in Sight

They say no white after Labor Day but I’m pretty sure an Ojai Valley Inn wedding like this could play any time of year. Brought to us from the lens of Joel Serrato, there’s an airy romance that exudes from Kelly Kaufman’s florals along with the overall design by Park & Grove that’s both effortless and thoughtful in one fell swoop. Head to The Vault for a holiday Monday done so right.

From The Bride…Andrew and I first met while attending college together at USC, but it wasn’t until a few years later that we reconnected at a party in Manhattan Beach, CA and Sarah, my best friend and now business partner, decided to play matchmaker. As a wedding planner, and a general life planner, I assumed that I would know exactly when Andrew would propose, but even he managed to surprise me 4 years later on a Friday morning with the ring!

When it came to choosing a location for our wedding, we wanted it to be somewhere really special for our families and friends. My family is mostly from Chicago and Andrew’s is from Northern California, so we decided to pick a place where everyone could travel and really make a vacation out of the long Memorial Day weekend. We love the Ojai Valley Inn and Spa so much (Sarah and I have worked up there quite a bit) and it was the perfect California setting where everyone could stay together on one property.

Sarah suggested Casa Elar, a private home that is owned by the hotel, which ultimately served as the most beautiful location for the outdoor wedding we envisioned. We wanted both the serenity of an open-air space and the excitement of a late night dance party, so we had our ceremony and dinner reception at the house and then promptly headed back to the hotel ballroom where our guests were greeted by an incredible West Coast Music band, ice cream cake (our favorite!) and all of our go-to late-night comfort foods!

Our home has always had a very neutral palette (Andrew and I share a general aversion to bright color, so our wedding design and coloration consisted of shades of gray, beige, taupe and gold accents. Kelly Kaufman did an incredible job with the flowers, which were composed in aged stone containers and consisted of white and cream peonies and garden roses with deep greens spilling over, accented by lots and lots of candlelight. We kept the place settings simple and classic, featuring a gold-rimmed plate, a natural linen napkin with a menu tied to it using dyed silk ribbon and etched crystal glassware. All of the gorgeous tonal paper fit the setting perfectly and were designed by the extremely creative Brenna Berger of BB Paper and Ink. She is so talented and was the perfect fit for us!

At Park and Grove we always tell our clients that even though couples can get carried away so many details, the most important thing is to remain true to who you are and make sure that your guests feel taken care of along the way. More than anything, it was so important for us to create a relaxing and memorable weekend for everyone who had traveled to Ojai to be with us and as we continued the celebration into a hotel pool party the following day, we knew we had accomplished just that!
