The Barn Wedding Given a Completely Modern Look

You KNOW we love our barn weddings, but this particular celebration is quite unlike the typical day that comes to mind. Washed in a sea of white + gray with gold accents and elegant linen draping, it brings a fresh, modern vibe to the farm table without a speck of burlap or single mason jar in sight. TOAST Santa Barbara designed the florals, Michelle Beller photographed, and there’s much more this way.

From the Bride… What happens when a TV Producer and a Lawyer walk into a bar? Well, they get married… We met in 2011 at a bar in Santa Monica, CA. Every Wednesday, the bar has Trivia Night and every Wednesday, Wayne and his team (Sacred Guardians of the Trivia Temple), and my team and I (Donna Martin Graduates) would go and compete. It is at that bar, on a Wednesday night that they met, and have been together ever since.

Trivia/games, friends, and travel are 3 things that have always encapsulated us as a couple. So we wanted to encompass those 3 things during our wedding day. We decided to have our wedding in Solvang, California because one of our first dates was in Santa Barbara. We are both from the East Coast, so we wanted our friends and family to feel the magic of Wine Country, and also wanted our Los Angeles friends to have a “stay-cation.” It was a wonderful place, because the town is so quaint, that we took over 2 hotels in the town, so everyone got to know each other very well before the wedding even began.

Because getting to Solvang is a long drive from Los Angles (nevermind flying in from around the country) it was important to us to make the trek worthwhile for everyone involved. We didn’t want our friends & family to feel like just “guests” at our wedding. Personalizing the ceremony, the reception and everything in between was our goal. My Best Friend officiated the wedding, Wayne’s Brother sang and played the guitar to their first song, the Candy Bar and bags were done by my mom, Candy. One thing we were really excited about, was the place cards, we put nicknames/private jokes on each card so everyone had to guess which one was theirs, and that was a big hit. In addition to the cards, our ceremony program was a booklet that included trivia of the bridal party, the groomsmen wore socks that matched their personality, and games like bacci ball & beer pong was definitely a crowd pleaser. We wanted each person to know how important it was that they were there, but how important they were in our lives.

Our wedding was one of the best days of our lives, and absolutely one of the most fun, but the beauty of the day didn’t just come from the gorgeous flowers and scenic views, but from the love that was so strong, it almost blew us away.

So, what happens when a TV Producer & a Lawyer walk into a bar? The answer is pure bliss (well, let’s talk after we have kids) ;)
