Wedding Dress Trends to Expect at Bridal Week Fall 2017

I don’t have a favorite day of the year. Instead, I have a favorite week. Two to be exact. Bridal Fashion Week, when my days are filled with clouds of lace, flowers made from the finest fabrics, and sartorial masterpieces. It’s a week I look forward to every six months, eagerly anticipating what I’m going to see walk down the runway. And for Fall 2017, bridal stylist and expert Annie Cavallo, of I Do Style, is predicting we’ll be seeing these six gorgeous trends.

The New Romantics

Designers are re-thinking the classic bridal silhouettes and we will continue to see this investment into the new millennial bride mindset. Ready-to-wear influences of pants, jackets, dress shirts will be back for the Fall and than some. I predict we will see some reinvented favorites like a ball skirt layered over a short-set or romper — be ready to mix and match with wedding day separates. Accessory to watch for, BELTS!

Botanica

The concept of florals on your gown rather in your bouquet is not slowing down but rather over growing. We are seeing the floral explosion across all fashion platforms and especially in bridal with 3-D appliqués, garden vine details, embroidery and even veil treatments. The favorite bloom for the seasons seems to be the Rose, perhaps evolving from it’s spot light in the Spanish Influence trend we saw this past spring. Look out for rose appliqués, embroidered motifs and even shades of pink as rose seems to be the new it flower and color.

Elizabethan

High collars, ruffles and the emphasis on shoulders —this season prepare to see the royal treatment on your traditional ball gowns. This trend is all opulence with impressing details: rich brocade fabrics, dedicated pleated collars and cuffs, yoke panels and a grand statement train. Puffed shoulders and fitted sleeves would be a huge part of this trend, capes and crowns to finish the look and a possible gothic twist — think more black in bridal.

Old West Influence

Evolving from the victorian trend of high necklines, lace patterns and tiered ruffle skirts, we should be seeing more of this trend for Fall. Watching some of the RTW designers add a fresh spin to this style adding in lace up corset treatments, bustled trains and even short mini dresses that give a “parlor girl” vibe, these could all be seen again with bridal spin. Key notes for this trend, ruffles and ruching, paneled gathered ball skirts and feathers and fringe.

Next-to-Nothing

Even though there isn’t much left to take away, the “nude illusions” trend will still be turning up the heat on this Fall’s runway. There could be some interesting under-pinning treatments, boning structures and seaming details that play into the new style trends. I think lace up corsets will definitely be feature with these gowns paired with gauzy sheer layers.

Baby Doll

Flouncy layers, cascading ruffles, feminine details that are soft and playful. We could see some empire waistlines and that true baby-doll shape dresses coming from the influence of 90’s fashion. Collars and chocker accessories would be part of this look, strong off the shoulder arm details and ruffle sleeves. Other 90’s references that could come into play, crochet, open weave laces and mesh.
