Intimate Beachside Spring Wedding on Fripp Island

I’m convinced that this wedding’s color palette is pure magic. Within seconds of gazing (or let’s just be honest, obsessing) over Shannon Duggan’s pics, my mood is instantly lifted, with pretty petals and dreamy dresses pushing worries away. The grays complemented the seaside ceremony oh so well and blush and gold details added the perfect amount of elegance. See why I’m smiling right this way!

From Shannon Duggan Photography… There’s nothing quite like a love beneath Spanish moss. I drove into Fripp Island through a maze of tree lined roads. The Spanish moss draped everywhere. Alexa and Kyle worked with family and friends to put together such an intimate, beautiful day. I truly have never seen a couple work together so seamlessly to put together the best pieces of their love. I hope you enjoy this beautiful beach wedding!

From the Bride… Kyle and I have known each other our whole lives and grew up in a small, rural town in Missouri. We first started dating as I was preparing to leave to study abroad in Spain. After my classes were finished, Kyle and I traveled through Europe and fell in love over our mutual desire to travel. A few years later, he popped the question and we immediately knew we wanted to travel for our wedding as well. My brother-in-law is currently stationed at Parris Island, SC and after visiting them several times, we knew South Carolina would be the perfect destination to exchange our vows. We chose Fripp Island, a private island in SC, where we rented a beach house. The ceremony was held in the sand right in front of the house and was directly followed by the reception on the deck. We envisioned our day as being a small, intimate gathering with our closest friends and family, so keeping the guest list under 50 was important to us and the beach house we chose was the perfect size. All of our guests stayed on the island and were only a short golf cart ride away from the wedding festivities.

We bought our first home about two years prior to the wedding. Ever since then, we’ve been building and DIYing things for our home, so we spent a lot of time on Pinterest drawing inspiration for projects that would make our day special. I wanted to stick with soft, neutral hues (gray, blush, gold) so as not to distract from the beauty of the ocean and rocky beach. As much as I love blush and gold, these tones aren’t Kyle’s favorites so we mixed in rustic, wooden details to bring some of his personality into the decor.

As guests arrived for the ceremony, they were greeted by a DIY chalkboard sign and sangria, made by myself, to enjoy during the ceremony. Post ceremony, everyone gathered on the deck for cocktail hour. Kyle and I have an addiction to sweets so each place setting had an iced sugar cookie from our favorite place in Savannah, GA, for guests to enjoy before the catering began. After dinner and cake were served, we moved tables and chairs out of the way so we could dance the night away under the stars!

Planning a destination wedding can be extremely stressful and requires a lot of trust since being hands-on isn’t always an option. Despite this, our day was everything we could’ve wanted and more! We are thankful everything came together just as we pictured (even the weather – 75 and sunny) to have the most magical, oceanside evening with all of our closest friends and family.
