#SMPWedding101 – Save the Date Essentials

Looking back at the planning process, our Save the Dates stand out. They were so fun and sending those babies out amped up the excitement more than any other step beforehand. But when it came to the details, I’d be lying to say we weren’t a little lost. When to send, what to include? Well, Dancing Pen & Press is here to help all you brides-to-be get those questions answered and get onto more fun festivities!

Tip #1: Time It Right.

Save the dates should be mailed to your guests four to six months before your wedding date. For a destination wedding, or if your wedding takes place over a holiday weekend, it’s best to send your save the dates six to eight months (or more) before the big day.

Tip #2: Keep It Simple.

You don’t need all of the details at this point (that’s what your formal invitation is for). Your names, date, and location is all you need. If you don’t know the exact location yet, that’s okay. You can simply put the city, state (country, or island, etc).

Tip #3: Introduce the Website.

If you are planning on having a wedding website, the Save the Date is great place to let your guests know about it. This is especially nice for a destination wedding. As you plan more and more details for your wedding, you can share them with your guests on the website. It gets everybody pumped as you are to celebrate with you!

Tip #4: Cue the Plus Ones.

If you know for certain that you will allow your single guests to bring a date, now is a great time to let them know, so they can plan accordingly (hotels, plane tickets for two, etc) All you need to do is write “and guest” after their name on the envelope. The same goes for families. If you are including the kids, let the parents know by writing “and family” or personalize it and write the little ones names on the line after their parents.
