Charming Borris House Wedding in Ireland

Even though this was technically a destination wedding planned from Australia, for this couple, marrying in Ireland meant coming home. They gathered all their family and friends for a celebration at The Borris House and brought on House Of Hannah Events to design a day with natural foliage, candlelight and gold accents throughout. The incredible Laura Gordon told the story of the day through her lens and it’s all in The Vault.

From The Bride…One of the easiest decisions in the entire planning process was to marry back home in Ireland. We emigrated to Australia in 2010 and although we absolutely love Sydney, we very much miss our family and friends. It was such a perfect opportunity to throw a big party and celebrate with everyone back home.

Planning a destination wedding in Ireland from Australia was a not an easy task so we enlisted the very lovely Lindsay from House of Hannah as our planner and stylist. Lindsay is an absolute dream to work with and expertly brought our vision to light. She even traveled the length and breadth of Ireland to source a venue for us!

The most important aspects of the day for us were the venue, ceremony and photography. We are exceptionally lucky Laura traveled from the U.S., along with her very lovely assistant Jen, to photograph our wedding. Laura has an amazing eye for detail and we cherish our photos from the day.

Borris House is simply a beautiful venue and remains drenched in natural light even on the most typical of Irish rainy days. This turned out to be quite important aspect of the venue as it literally did not stop raining on our wedding day! We played to the venue’s strengths and grandeur when styling with lots of natural foliage, candlelight and gold accents. Borris House has a real sense of history and the Kavanaghs warmly welcomed us and our guests for the entire weekend.

We choose to have a Humanist ceremony, which very much adheres to our own belief in marriage equality. Our celebrant, Bridget Carlin, was simply wonderful and guided us through the ceremony with beautiful poetry read by our family and friends. The ceremony was without a doubt our highlight of the day. It was very humbling to look around the room at all our guest smiling back at us – we really felt the love!

Many, many bottles of champagne were popped post-ceremony with delicious seasonal food served by Eunice Power. Our first dance is one of our favorite memories with our guests storming the dance floor mid-way though the song. The party had begun and continued to the very early hours with music by All Talk. Really that was what the whole day was about for us – lots of fun, celebration and good times with family and friends.
