SMPweddings101: Winter Wedding Styling Tips

How many times this week have you heard that winter is the most wonderful time of the year? Well, we’re about to reiterate that exact same sentiment, because when said season includes hot cocoa and peppermint covered kisses you know we’re all about it. So with winter well on it’s way, we’ve asked Allie of Little Red’s Well on unique ways to incorporate cozy chic into your celebration!

Stay Warm

I love outdoor photography no matter the season, so I suggest making some pretty outerwear a part of your wedding day ensemble. Perhaps my favorite pick is vintage fur – I love when brides borrow a piece from their Grandmother or Mother (could be your something old / something borrowed!) – but, faux fur is beautiful, too! Not a fan of a jacket? A colorful shawl or a cozy knit will do the trick!

Bring in Color

What with the snow and white dress, make sure to layer in plenty of color for your big day. A bold clutch, bright shoes, or a colorful collection of bridesmaids dresses will break up all the white. When selecting flowers, mix in ferns or lush greenery, and choose a colored tablecloth or napkin instead of opting for standard white. It’s a simple, subtle way to add in color without breaking the bank.

Winter Visage

A rosy cheek and a lip stain will make you look like you just stepped in from the cold. Have your makeup artist swipe the apples of your cheeks with a bright pink blush, and apply a berry colored stain to your lips. Keep your lips moisturized with a barely there gloss – no need for major touch ups!

It’s all in the details

Embrace the Winter season by going full throttle by including seasonal decor items. You don’t have to decorate for the Holidays, but you could opt for some ski chalet decor (think vintage skis and piles of chopped wood) or even an Apres Ski themed cocktail hour, complete with a fire and cozy Pendleton blankets. Extend this idea throughout the day, wearing snow shoes for your bridal portraits, how cute is that?

Cozy cocktails

Just like guests enjoy cooling down with a refreshing cocktail at a Summer wedding, they’ll appreciate a spiked hot chocolate, hot toddy or warm cider for your Winter soiree. Rent colorful mugs and let guests opt for either marshmallows or whipped cream, cinnamon or an orange slice. Cheers!
